Comfort, Confidence, and Balance

Not every woman desires large breasts — for many, naturally large breasts can lead to physical discomfort, self-consciousness, and a reduced quality of life. At American Medical Center in Damascus, breast reduction surgery (also known as reduction mammoplasty) is offered to reshape and resize the breasts, creating a more balanced and comfortable body contour.

Am I a Candidate for Breast Reduction?

You may be a candidate if you experience:

  • Chronic neck, back, or shoulder pain

  • Skin irritation beneath the breast fold

  • Difficulty with exercise or physical activity

  • Emotional discomfort or low self-esteem

  • Grooves in your shoulders from bra straps

Ideal candidates are in good health, non-smokers, and have realistic expectations for their results. You must be willing to stop smoking and avoid anti-inflammatory medications and supplements before and after the surgery.

How Is the Breast Reduction Procedure Performed?

  • General anesthesia is used

  • Performed as an outpatient procedure

  • A complete health evaluation is conducted prior to surgery

The most common technique uses the anchor-shaped (inverted-T) incision, which allows for the removal of a larger amount of breast tissue and skin. The incision typically goes:

  • Around the areola

  • Vertically down to the breast crease

  • Horizontally along the breast fold

During surgery:

  • Excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue are removed

  • The nipple-areola complex may be resized or repositioned

  • A breast lift is often combined to enhance shape

  • Optional liposuction can further refine surrounding areas

What Is Recovery Like After Breast Reduction?

  • Breasts are wrapped in a compression garment to reduce swelling and maintain shape

  • Mild pain and tenderness may persist for 2–4 weeks

  • Most patients return to light activity within 2 weeks

  • No underwire bras for at least 6–8 weeks

  • Full physical activity can be resumed within 6 weeks

What Results Can I Expect?

  • Noticeable improvements within a few weeks

  • Swelling and bruising will gradually subside

  • Patients report relief from physical symptoms and enhanced self-confidence

  • Results are long-lasting with a healthy lifestyle and weight maintenance
